From watching complete Broadway productions online to reading about the history of the art form to "taking a dance class" online, there's a wealth of information that the musical theater student can immerse themselves into. From Here to Eternity Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by James Jones, this musical adaptation tells the story of four lovers whose worlds are torn apart in the events leading up to Pearl Harbor. Captured live during its West End premiere at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2014, Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson’s production is a tale of illicit love and army life.
From Up Here From Up Here is a new musical by Aaron Lee Lambert, exploring what one’s life choices can mean and how we can affect other people without even realising. Funny Girl Funny Girl is based on the life of Broadway star, film actress and comedienne Fanny Brice (a role made famous by Barbra Streisand) and her tempestuous relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nick Arnstein. Hans Brinker This TV movie, based on the novel of the same name by Mary Mapes Dodge, stars Robin Askwith (U-571) as the noble but poor Hans Brinker, who must struggle to keep his poor family afloat in the wake of an accident that left his father unable to work. The tale provides a realistic look at Dutch family life in the 19th century, and has since become a classic story in children's literature. Directed by Robert Sheerer (The Love Boat, Star Trek: The Next Generation), the movie provides a classic example of the made-for-TV feature length musicals which were popular in the 1960's and 1970's.
Hetty Feather Telling the story of an orphan and her search for a family of her own, Hetty Feather is a musical adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson’s best-selling novel series. Captured live at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton in 2018, Olivier Award-nominated director Sally Cookson brings together Benji Bower’s original score and aerial skills in this production.
Into the Woods Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods weaves together many famous fairy tales in an allegorical story of family, love, growing up and the hazy areas between right and wrong. This critically acclaimed production was captured by Digital Theatre live at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and was directed by Timothy Sheader. It won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and features Hannah Waddingham as the Witch and Jenna Russell as the Baker’s Wife, among many other stand-out performances.
Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn Based on the 1942 film of the same name, Irving Berlin’s classic musical follows the journey of Jim, a performer who leaves the glitz and glamour of show business behind in pursuit of a quieter life in rural Connecticut. Captured live in 2016 at Studio 54, New York, this feel-good production features hit songs including “White Christmas” and “Easter Parade”, and received a Tony Award nomination for the choreography of “Shaking the Blues Away”.
John & Jen Siblings John and Jen examine whether their promises stand the test of time in this contemporary American musical spanning two decades. Captured live at the Southwark Playhouse in 2021, Olivier Award nominee Rachel Tucker stars in this two-handed production from Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald.
Kinky Boots Inspired by a true story, this musical follows the unlikely friendship between Charlie, who struggles to save his shoe business and Lola, an entertainer with a radical idea. Les Misérables 2012 Hollywood film
Lift One morning, in a lift at Covent Garden tube station, eight people live less than a minute of their lives together, considering how that minute might change them forever. Captured live at London’s Soho Theatre, with music and lyrics by Craig Adams, Lift was nominated for Best Original Score in the 2014 Whatsonstage Awards and featured a host of star names, including Cynthia Erivo (Grammy and Tony Award winner), George Maguire (Olivier Award winner) and Nikki Davis-Jones.
My Fair Lady 1964 Hollywood film
Oh! What A Lovely War Joan Littlewood’s musical satire creates a picture of those on the front line and those behind it, commenting on the atrocities of the First World War. Captured live at the Wilde Theatre, Bracknell, in 2011, Blackeyed Theatre’s timely production features live music, dance, songs and sketches performed by a cast of five.
Old Hats Bill Irwin and David Shiner's funny, heartwarming, comic adventure Old Hats wowed audiences in New York's Pershing Square Signature Center. Now, after the show has closed in New York, BroadwayHD welcomes back Bill Irwin and David Shiner in their award-winning, critically acclaimed musical production. Pieces of String A new musical exploring three generations of one family, Pieces of String alternates between the 1940s and the present day, telling the story of a World War II soldier who returned with a secret that he would carry until the day he died. With haunting music and a very human story at its heart, this latest instalment from Perfect Pitch has been nominated for Best Musical Production at the UK Theatre Awards, with Gus Gowland also being nominated for Best Composer at the Stage Debut Awards.
The Pirates of Penzance This classic revival of Gilbert and Sullivan's parody-musical The Pirates of Penzance taps into the ridiculous levity of the play so that none of the humor is lost on the modern audience. Starring the irrepressibly funny Tony and Oscar-winner Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda), the play recreates the world of English comic opera, complete with beautiful singing maidens, rowdy singing pirates, and a tongue-twisting Major General. The production features theater legend John Papp as director and Tony/Emmy award-winning vocalist Linda Ronstadt.
Ruthless! The Musical A parody of Gypsy, Mame and All About Eve, this off-Broadway musical follows eight-year-old Tina Denmark, who will stop at nothing to play the lead role in her school play. Captured live at the Arts Theatre in 2018, this production of Joel Paley and Marvin Laird’s modern cult classic stars Tracie Bennett and Jason Gardiner.

Singin' in the Rain 1952 Hollywood film
Some Like it Hip Hop ZooNation’s story of love, mistaken identity and revolution revolves around Jo-Jo and Kerri, two women who disguise themselves as men in order to thrive in a patriarchal city. Captured live at London’s Peacock Theatre in 2019, this twist on Some Like it Hot showcases Kate Prince’s trademark style, which combines hip hop, comedy and physical theatre.
The Stingiest Man in Town This 1956 performance of the play The Stingiest Man in Town was directed by Daniel Petrie and stars Basil Rathbone, Martyn Green, Vic Damone, and Patrice Munsel. The play by Janice Torre is a musical adaptation of the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

These young women are taking a master class with Ann Reinking, veteran of the Broadway stage, and guest artist Gwen Verdon. Living American Theater Dance! Once a hit musical show finishes its run on Broadway, the choreography of the notable dance numbers involved would be lost, if not for the efforts of Lee Theodore, founder and director of the American Dance Machine. This dance company is actually a living archive of over 45 dance routines, reconstructed from the original cast members’ memories, and performed now as worthwhile pieces of choreography outside the context of the original shows.
