Music: MUSIC 197 - African-American Art Song

Founded in 1997, this website has biographical information on African-American composers and performers as well as the scholars studying in this field, the latest news and awards in African American art song, streaming audio playlists, and more!

A wide-ranging electronic collection of reference books, biographies, sheet music, images,liner notes, discographies, and more relating to the history of African American music.

Currently in phase one which includes art song only, this project provides an easily searchable online database for information on works by black composers around the world, as well as short biographies for each composer included.

While not specific to African-American music, this project of the Hampsong Foundation is a comprehensive archive of American song. Information on composers, poets/writers, and individual songs can be found here along with occasional streaming examples and outside links to purchase scores/books/recordings/etc. There is also a timeline of American music history, several full-text essays, and links to news articles on American music dating back to 2006.
