Hello! Welcome. This page was created for students in Professor Wue's Portraiture East-West Fall 2021 class. This class explores posthumous portraits; cross cultural dressing; portraits across culture; portraits and disabilities; portraits of artists; portraits across gender; and the materiality of the portrait.   • An excellent resource for modern & contemporary arts, dating back from the late 19th century onward. Covers traditional media (illustration, painting, printmaking, sculpture, drawing) as well as performance art, installation works, video art, computer/electronic art, graffiti, artists’ books, conservation, ceramics, museum design, fashion, among other areas. You'll find research articles, exhibition reviews, books and reviews, exhibition catalog entries, essays, conference proceedings, etc. Languages other than English include: German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese.

JSTOR Lock Icon

  • A collection of +2000 full-text journals covering more than 50 disciplines. Originally containing digitized back issues of academic journals, it is now a digital library with eBooks, images, and more. There is a lag time of 1-5 years between the time that an article is published and when it is placed in JSTOR. 

Google Scholar

  • Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. It searches art and visual culture but also many other disciplines and resources. You'll find: articles, theses, books, and abstracts from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. In many cases, you are brought back into the library's e-resources to access the full-text, particularly with books and articles.
