Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service enables UC students, faculty, and staff to borrow materials from other libraries that are not available at the UCI Library. Please check Library Search before requesting an ILL. The MELVYL Request icon found in MELVYL and many databases where the UC eLinks is entered is the most efficient way to submit ILL requests.  When requested item is not found in MELVYL, please use these alternative request forms:

Request Book ILL Form

Request Journal Article ILL Form

Request Government Document

Request Other

ILL may take anywhere from 3-10 days depending on method of sending item and due to staffing delays.

Finding Books

There are many ways to identify the availability of a book and whether or not it is in print. The order of this recommendation includes priorities for UCI users. Increasingly, books are becoming available as eBooks. There may be multiple records for the different formats in Library Search

Finding book chapters is increasingly important and available in the digital arena. Many eBook platforms allow one to search at the chapter or full text level, and those will be noted in each subject area.

There are many eBook packages available containing thousands of titles.  Some are arranged by publisher and others thematically.  The eBook Subject Guide describes many of them.
