Tests and measures are standardized instruments used to measure constructs in research often in the social sciences. Examples of measures include questionnaires, surveys, scales, inventories, etc.
Published tests are standardized instruments that have been commercially published by test publishers. Often published tests and measures have been tested for reliability and validity. These tests can be located directly through the publisher or through the databases linked on this page, including PsycTests and Mental Measurement Yearbook. These databases will sometimes contain the full text of a test, but not always.
Unpublished tests can be found in scholarly literature and are typically developed by researchers and other entities conducting research like the government or nonprofits. They can often be found in journal articles or other reports of research where the test was utilized to obtain the results. Sometimes they will be tested for reliability and validity, but not always. In order to utilize one of these tests ethically, you will need to get permission from the author.
Individual tests are NOT purchased by UC Irvine Libraries. Many tests are copyrighted and purchased on an individual basis. Permission from the copyright holder is often needed before administering these tests.
