FAQ

I have a personal WSJ membership.  Can I cancel it and join the UC Irvine Libraries' sponsored membership?

Yes!  UC Irvine Authorized Affiliates can cancel their personal membership and switch to a membership sponsored by the UC Irvine Libraries.

  • Contact WSJ Support.
  • You will need your email address used to create your account.
  • Tell WSJ that you want to switch to the subscription provided by the University of California, Irvine.  Partial refunds will be dispersed.
  • After your personal account is closed, you will be able to activate your complimentary membership sponsored by the UC Irvine Libraries.

How far back is the coverage with a premium WSJ membership?

The WSJ.com archives go back four years, on a rolling basis.

Is any content from Dow Jones
NOT included in our subscription?

Print copies are not included, meaning you cannot get the print paper delivered to you.

WSJ Pro articles are not part of the UC Irvine Libraries' subscription to WSJ.com.  WSJ Pro is a separateWSJ Pro Logo product.  Unfortunately, Dow Jones does not mark its Pro article links (e.g., with a padlock icon), so you may not realize it's a Pro article unless you see the Pro logo in the header, as well as a box prompting you to sign in or subscribe.

What personal info might Dow Jones collect, and how might they use it?

When you create a WSJ.com account, your personal information is subject to use by publisher Dow Jones as described below:

• How/when personal data is collected: Information required when you sign up for an account or create a profile; use an interactive feature (such as chat, chat bot or article sharing options); participate in a community forum.

  • Data collected through third parties: If you access through a social media service, information collected may include your social media user ID and/or user name, profile picture, email address, demographic data, your interests, and your activities on other websites.

  • Other data collected through third party analytics providers, ad networks, and advertisers: Dow Jones can track your online activities over time and across third party websites, apps and devices. Data may include your name, contact information, your transactions, purchase history, or relationships with various product and service providers, and use of certain applications.

  • Other data that may be collected: Password, birthday, education or graduation year, occupation, financial information (i.e. income, investments, portfolio transactions and value), live event accommodations, and interests.

  • Here's the full Dow Jones Privacy Notice.

Do students receive additional benefits from Wall Street Journal after they graduate?

About

Excerpts from WSJ, About Us

The Wall Street Journal was founded in July 1889.

  • The Wall Street Journal separates news and opinion. This longstanding practice is designed to allow both departments to flourish. The news pages offer readers the highest standards of rigorous, factual, impartial news reporting, while the opinion pages offer a panoply of contributors who add to societal debate in the U.S. and elsewhere, promoting the principles of free people and free markets. The Journal is committed to clear labeling, so readers know when they are reading an editorial or opinion piece, as opposed to a news article.

  • We adhere to a long legacy of 'no surprises' journalism. That means performing the highest level of due diligence to assess the credibility of our sources, and providing an opportunity for full and fair comment for all parties involved in an article before it publishes. We never pursue an agenda other than an unwavering commitment to the truth, which is why we strive to attribute all disputable facts as precisely as possible to relevant parties, and write in a neutral declarative tone.

  • The news department operates independently from the corporate teams executing marketing, advertising sales and general business operations. This independence ensures the Journal’s coverage remains free from outside influence or commercial considerations.
