Getting an account

A LibApps account is used to log in to all Springshare tools licensed by the UCI Libraries to which you have been given access (i.e., LibGuides, LibInsight, LibCal, etc.).

If your role involves using any Springshare tools, a LibApps account will be created for you when you join the UCI Libraries as part of the onboarding process. You will receive an email to activate your account. A LibApps account can also be created at a later date via an IT workticket.

My Account vs. My Profile

LibApps top menu with arrows pointing to My Account and My Profile.

My Account

My Account is where you can access and update your username/password, account permissions, newsletter preferences, etc. Think of this as the place for internal information.

My Profile

My Profile is where you can access and edit information that is visible to the public. This includes your Profile Box and your Profile Page. Think of this as the place for external information.

My Profile

LibApps My Profile page with Profile Box and Profile Page highlighted.

Profile Box

Your Profile Box is a box that can be added to guides that you own (or guides on subjects/topics for which you are the primary contact) and lets users know who you are and how to contact you.

Profile Page

Your Profile Page is essentially a homepage for information about you. It provides a summary of your contact information, the subject areas you cover, and a list of all of your guides. You can also add an optional personal statement.

Profile Box

For detailed instructions (with screenshots) on how to edit your Profile Box, please visit: Customize your public profile.

Title / Pronouns / Image

Box Title: Should be your position title (or an abridged version if it is too long). Note: You can customize the title of your Profile Box on individual guides, if desired (e.g., for librarians with multiple subject specialties, you may only want to list the corresponding subject(s) in your box title on a particular Subject Guide).

Pronouns (optional): Pronouns are words that people use to refer to others without using their names. Examples: she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, he/him/his, we/us/ours.

Profile Image (optional): Displaying a profile image is optional. Many individuals use their "new staff photo" taken by the UC Irvine Libraries Design Services Department, but you could also use your own professional-looking headshot, an avatar, UC Irvine Libraries-related image, or other image.

Contact Info

Address: With flexible schedules, it is common practice not to list your physical office number/location. Instead, this field can be used to display your email address (the "Email Address" field, below, generates a button, so the actual email address isn't visible).

To create a "clickable" email link, copy and paste the following text into the "Address" field, replacing the text in red bold with your email address. Don't forget to select the blue check button to Save.

<a href="mailto:panteater@uci.edu">panteater@uci.edu</a>

Phone: (949) 824-XXXX

Email Address: Entering your email address will generate an "Email Me" button.

Skype (don't use): Ignore this field.

Website/Blog (optional): Can be used to link to your ORCID or Google Scholar profile.

Social Media (optional)

Any social media accounts listed here should be professional in nature and/or related to your position. You are not required to list any social media accounts on your profile.

Social Cataloging (optional)

Any social cataloging (i.e., LibraryThing, GoodReads) accounts listed here should be professional in nature and/or related to your position. You are not required to list any social cataloging accounts on your profile.

Widgets

LibAnswers Widget Code: Do not use (this creates a LibAnswers ticket, and does not go directly to the guide owner).

LibCal Widget Code: Instructions for creating an Appointments widget.

Other Widget Code: Instructions for adding the NameBadge (name pronunciation) button (optional).

[For all of the Display Options choices, select Page & Box.]

Placement

Your Profile Box should appear on only the homepage of a guide, directly under the navigation menu in the left column of the page.
