Library Buildings & Hours

You are likely to probably depend on the Langson Library (LL) for resources in business/management, social & behavioral sciences, arts, letters & literature, Government Information and to a lesser extent on the Science Library (SL) for most of your needs in the life sciences, physical sciences, information sciences, engineering & technology, clinical and health sciences, however you may on occasion have to use the and perhaps the Grunigen Medical Library (GML) for clinical and other medical resources, but you can request that those materials either be scanned (journal articles) or sent to the Main Campus for your pickup.  There is also the Gateway Study Center for extended hours studying.  Consult Library Hours before visiting.

Please use the Safety Escorts when leaving library & campus properties late at night alone by calling them at 949-824-7233 (SAFE)

Introduction

This Subject Guide supports the academic research and instructional needs of the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Enginieering at the University of California, Irvine Libraries.  It is not intended to be exhaustive but should direct faculty, researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students to the range of scholarship and resources that we have for them to use and access.  The programmatic emphases include: mechanical engineering design, manufacturing and control of machines ranging from robots to aircraft, spacecraft, drones of all sorts, automobiles, to the power plants that drive these machines.  Comprehensive coverage of fluid dynamics and mechanics, heat transfer, control engineering, propulsion, materials, combustion, thermophysics, simulation and atmospheric science associated with the study of aerospace, its industry and global policy.  In addition, a deep array of resources supports the study of energy creation and independence, nuclear energy and fuel cell technology, hybrid engines and thermionic devices. to contribute to environmental research and atmospheric physics and impacts.  Other areas of collection and academic strength are reflected in miniaturization engineering, mechatronic design work, MEMS, the development of gryroscopes, bio-sensors and actuators, robotics and other applications.

Evaluating Information

When using Online or Internet Resources, consider Search Engines vs. metasites - evaluate resource - consider domain - .edu, .com, .gov, .org, etc.

Thinking Critically about World Wide Web Resources - or Evaluation Techniques for Internet Resources

  1. Authority control - authorship - who, affiliation, where
  2. Currency - note the date, the update, does it reflect the right period of time
  3. Evaluate the source - establish criteria that is meaningful to covering the topic
  4. Citing Internet resources - URL & date of the search
  5. Capturing and citing
  6. Copying

Copying/ Printing at the Libraries

The UCI Libraries offers Wepa printing that can be accessed from an app downloaded on your phone.

  • Print from the Cloud using Google Drive, Canvas, Office 365, Dropbox, and more.
