Digital Sandbox

UCI Libraries’ Digital Sandbox is a fully hosted platform that researchers can use to explore specialized software applications for digital projects. The Digital Sandbox is ideal for UCI researchers (including faculty, students and staff) who want to:

• Build and test tools for a short to medium term digital project
• Decide whether or not certain software is right for their needs
• Scope out a project that can later be moved on to a permanent hosting solution
• Collaborate with peers or students

The Digital Sandbox provides access to dozens of fully functional applications including:

• Wordpress
• Omeka Classic
• Omeka S
• Scalar
• Mukurtu
• Pressbooks
• and more!

Before you create a Sandbox account and get started on your project, make sure to review the Service Level Agreement. This agreement is in place to make sure UCI affiliates creating digital projects understand relevant campuswide policies, and also makes it clear that the Digital Sandbox is not for long term hosting. 

Looking for something a little bit different? If you are looking for more options for web hosting or a place to publish your digital project, here are some additional options.

• UCI Sites 
  • UCI Sites is a service from UCI's Office of Information Technology (OIT) that allows UCI faculty, staff, and graduate students to publish websites using Wordpress
• UCI Google Sites 
  • UCI affiliates also have access to UCI Google Sites, a web-based platform where you can create and publish websites and web pages using a variety of templates and customization options. This can be a nice alternative to Wordpress.

Anyone with a UCINetID can use the Digital Sandbox, but you need to request an account with us first. We will work with you to understand your project goals and be a point of contact for the inevitable questions.

Reminder: Before you get started, we recommend that you review our Service Level Agreement (SLA). It is important to remember that Digital Sandbox is not intended to be a long term hosting service. It is a space for prototyping and exploration.
