Specific Campus Needs for Standards

All faculty, researchers and graduate students who need specific standards not available through local licensed and available channels should contact Julia Gelfand (jgelfand@uci.edu) with specific need and provision will be made to acquire individual standard either by Inter Library Loan if available or by direct purchase from Document Supply source.  Please make sure that you have the exact issuing body, title and order number.  Standard will usually be issued as PDF and due to DRM & copyright provisions can't be shared or distributed beyond requestor.

Finding Guides & Searching for Standards

Alphabetical List of Standards by Organization

  • ACI Manual of Concrete Practice: Most-current manual is in print  at the Science Library Reference collection TA 439 A358
  • American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standards - makes sure you are in the Dashboard with UCI banner across the top . 
  • (U.S.) Department of Defense Military Standards and Specifications: Everyspec.com (online; contains many free military and Dept. of Defense standards and handbooks) or ASSIST Quicksearch (online)
  • IEEE Standards: All IEEE standards (except for “draft” standards) are accessible via IEEE Xplore.
  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO): International Organization for Standardization  ISO standards are generally only available for individual purchase. The library may be willing to purchase such standards as a normal materials request. However, ISO standards are licensed and watermarked to the purchaser. Contact the Engineering librarian to inquire. Also check above under ANSI.
  • National Fire Protection Association: NFPA (all are free to view online but can only be downloaded or printed with individual purchase).
  • National Information Standards Organization:  NISO
  • National Electrical Code: 2017 Edition of Code and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) 2017 edition
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology Standard Physical Reference Data Page (SI standard units, conversion factors, universal constants): NIST Physical Reference Data Page.
  • National Resource for Global Standards (National Standards Systems Network): NSSN - Search Engine for Standards
  • SAE Standards (SAE Ground Vehicle, Aerospace, & Aerospace Material Specifications): Available via SAE Mobilus - Standards
  • Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME): Part of the Knovel digital library
  • Uniform Building Code (1997 superseded by International Building Code): Science Library TH223 .I5 1997 is latest edition.  Later online editions restricted to UCI Law School affiliates only.
