When many people think of a large research library, they might not immediately think about comics. Yet, UCI Libraries is home to several thousand comics and graphic novels, both physical and digital, that are available for your pleasure reading and researching needs. Additionally, we also have many scholarly books focused on comics studies, most of which are available digitally.

The majority of the comics are located on the 4th floor of Langson Library with call numbers that start with PN6726 - PN6790, but there are also quite a few that are shelved in other places. The UCI Libraries Comics and Graphic Novels Collection is a page to help you discover the variety of physical comics in our collection.

Digital Comics

While many of UCI Libraries' comics are physical, we do have access to some digital comics. The vast majority of these are in the database Underground and Independent Comics

This database is the first-ever scholarly online collection for researchers and students of adult comic books and graphic novels. From the shocking and explicit work of young artists exploring newfound freedoms to intricate and beautiful designs of aesthetic craftsmanship, this resource gives the user access to over 200,000 pages of comics that are difficult to find through other channels. The comics it includes were primarily created between 1950 and 2000.
