RateWatch Scholar offers the academic community information for U.S. financial institutions for research and analysis. Data covers over 96,000 branch locations, depending on time period and data type, all provided voluntarily. Data is gathered from institutions of all types and sizes, including banks, credit unions, savings and loan associations, etc. The RateWatch Historical data sets focus on retail products offered to the general public. The UCI Libraries license two RateWatch products:
For simple sorting and segmenting, data output includes fields such as: certification number, institution name, address, asset size, institution type, MSA codes and federal reserve districts. Data is provided in a format compatible with Excel, SPSS, MathLab and other processing programs. Each data set includes a data dictionary. Data can be packaged by geography, historical time period and product details and combined with institution identifiers for easy handling and analyzing. The RateWatch Quality team monitors data collection methods at every step to ensure data is current and precise.
UCI- Authorized Affiliates
The UCI Libraries do not host RateWatch data. It is provided to researchers upon request. The data sets will be packaged in zip files and split into years due to their large size. To start a data request:
1. Email the RateWatch administrator, Annette Buckley, Business and Economics Librarian, using your @uci email address.
Start your request.
2. Describe your current UCI Affiliation (i.e. faculty, student, staff)
3. Identify which data set(s) you want and which year(s) you want.
You will receive a reply email with a link to S&P's file transfer platform, as well as a password that's unique to you.
The UCI Libraries’ RateWatch administrator typically approves data requests within 48 hours during the business week. If you have not received an update after 48 hours, please use UCI’s Ask A Librarian email service, and copy/paste this message:
