About Amazon Kindle

Early generations of Kindle utilize an E-Ink electronic paper dispay capable of rendering 16 shades of gray that closely simulates reading on paper.  Utilizing Wi-Fi or Amazon's 3G network called Whispernet, books can be downloaded without any monthly fee or wireless subscription.  Kindle owners can synchronize their reading progress, bookmarks and other information across kindle apps and devices. In 2011, Kindle annouced a touchscreen version (Kindle Touch) and an Android-based tablet (Kindle Fire).
