The CAS Source Index (CASSI) search tool is a web-based resource intended to support researchers and librarians who need accurate bibliographic information. This new tool has been created as a free-of-charge resource that will enable researchers to confirm journal titles and journal title abbreviations in an easily accessible electronic format.

This free, web-based tool can serve as a companion tool to CASSI on CD customers to provide easy access for basic journal and abbreviation look-ups, while CASSI on CD provides additional functionality and data such as holdings information, DDS availability, certain record details, and archival ability.

Searching the Chemical Literature before Chemical Abstracts

Web of Science (1900-present) *
The ISI® Science Citation Index Expanded provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in approximately 8,060 major journals across 173 disciplines, to 1900.
SCOPUS (1996 - ) *
Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research.
* Over 20,500 titles from 5,000 publishers worldwide
* Contains 49 million records, 78% with abstracts going back to 1996
* Includes over 5.3 million conference papers
* Provides 100% Medline coverage
* Updated daily
OSTI.gov Search Tools
From the Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information. Proceedings and papers from scientific meetings can be found in these fields, among others: particle physics, nuclear physics, chemistry, petroleum, aeronautics and astronautics, meteorology, engineering, computer science, electric power, fossil fuels.

Also included are over 500,000 proceedings and papers indexed in the Energy Citations Database covering 1948 to the present. This is a free distributed portal that provides access to science and technology conference proceedings and papers from nineteen professional societies plus a number of national labs.
Reaxys (1700s - present) *
An authoritative reference source on chemical properties and reactions which aims to be the synthesis resource for organic and inorganic chemistry. Reaxys is a combination of three chemistry databases: Beilstein (organic), Gmelin (inorganic), and Patent Chemistry.
Library Search [Online Catalog and Database Search]
Use subject keywords (with truncation symbol) such as "organic*" or "computational*" to find journals with that word in the title. "Online Resources" returnds online journals and databases available to the UC Irvine campus.
