Things To Do

  1. Attend the Library's Welcome Reception for all new graduate students, Wed., Sept 25 at the Langson Library, Holden Room from 3-4:30pm
  2. Read or review Crafting Your Research Future: A Guide to Successful Master's and PhD Degrees in Science & Engineering, 2012 by Ling & Yang - it gives an excellent overview to academic research in the current social & fiscal environments
  3. Use regenerator to add money to your UCI photo ID card to be debited for Xeroxing/copying and printing in any of the UCI Libraries (10 cents/page for copying; 12 cents/page  for printing).  Can also use at all campus IT labs although the price for printing services may vary from site to site.
  4. Know how to configure your home computer/laptop for remote access - follow instructions to install VPN - for trouble contact OIT at 824-2222
  5. Explore Bibliographic Management Systems for Zotero, Mendeley, EndNoteWeb and EndNote. 
  6. Create a MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT to track library transactions; Use MY ILL to track InterLibrary Loan requests.
  7. Explore the appropriate Subject Guide and UCI Library website
  8. If you are a TA, please serve as intermediary between faculty and librarian – send syllabus, assignments, seek contributions to support class to promote information literacyShow interest in Scholarly Communications issues – support for open access resources, curiosity about where to publish, retain authors’ rights, be aware of copyright & fair use and scholarly purposing of content, etc.
  9. Show an interest in Scholarly Communication, Data Management and Research Impact and follow announcements on those Subject Guides
