When the UCI Libraries do not have a book, journal article, or government publication you want, or the Libraries' copy is checked out, you may have the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service borrow a copy for you from another library. This service is available only to currently-enrolled UCI students, faculty, and staff.
The fastest way to request materials not available at UCI is to use the Request link in the Melvyl Catalog.
Library Search and Melvyl may be searched by everyone, on- or off-campus -- no UC affiliation needed. To connect to the full text in Library Search (ebooks, journal articles, streaming video, etc.) from off-campus, however, the UCI VPN must be turned on. Only currently-enrolled UCI students, faculty, and staff may use the UCI VPN.
These two online catalogs now also include records for journal articles, but they do not replace the thousands of article databases the UCI Libraries subscribe to. See the Find Articles tab in this research guide for where to start.
