Energy Research: Pathfinder for the Advanced Power & Energy Program (APEP): Find Books

Subject Headings

Selective subject headings may include the following terms and can also be searched by keyword to retrieve element in title, abstracts, table of contents, authorship, and subject headings and likely a broader range than only when searched by Subject Heading, which tends to retrieve the most relevant results: (you can also browse online by corresponding call number to see related titles).  Search Library Search by Subject Heading or Melvyl by Subject Heading.

Library Catalogs

The Library Search online catalog contains all information resources in all formats available to users.

The Melvyl Catalog is the holdings of all 10 UC campuses.

The University of California has been running a trial of Next Generation Melvyl Pilot, which is considered a canidate for the next version of MELVYL and is powered by WorldCat Local with functionality similar to MELVYL.

WorldCat is the largest holdings inventory of 56,000 member libraries worldwide and appoximately 1.4 billion records.  UCI's holdings are noted.

Verifying Information

To find out what is available on the commercial market, you may want to consult the following websites.  It is not necessary to buy anything - you can refer your findings to the Engineering Librarian as recommendations for consideration of titles to be added to UCI Library collection.  These sources will also list what is forthcoming as new publications to be expected from commercial suppliers in coming months, and can be sources of where to verify if a book or title has been released and when.

FINDING BOOKS and EBOOKS:  Regardless of the format in print or eBooks, you will search Library Holdings in Catalogs such as those mentioned in the previous box that notes the Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs) such as Library Search & MELVYL, NextGen MELVYL or WorldCat and by collections, and by individual titles or authors to locate specific books.  Some collections are publisher specific and are noted below.

E-Books - as noted there are an increasing number of eBooks to which you have access and most can be read, downloaded and copied at the chapter level. They are all listed in Library Search and MELVYL and Next Gen MELVYL by individual title and by series. There are many collections of such resources and the collections can be searched collectively.  There are several relevant series including:

If we do not have the book you need or the UCI copy is not available, initiate a request for the book utilizing MELVYL REQUEST by clicking on the REQUEST icon in MELVYL or clicking through the UC eLink and selecting REQUEST.  This is also possible for journal articles that we do not have.  It is not usually possible to borrow eBooks via ILL.
