Importing your EndNote library to RefWorks:

Importing your EndNote library to RefWorks:

When importing large amounts of references, it is recommended to import no more than 2500 records (or 3MB of files) at a single time. This will ensure a successful import.

  • From EndNote, select the correct Output Style for the export. Under the Edit menu select Output Styles.
  • From the list of output styles select RefMan (RIS) Export select it.
    Note: If you do not see this format, choose “Open Style Manager” from the Edit menu. In the Sytle Manager window, click on “Find” and choose “Export.” Check the RefMan format and close the Style Manager. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
  • Select the references you want to export.
  • Under the File menu select Export.
    A dialog box appears for you to select the location where you want to save the file. Type a file name and select a location for importing into RefWorks. Select Text as your Save As type and click Save.
  • Go into RefWorks and from the References menu select Import.
  • Select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software as your Import Filter and EndNote (Ref Man RIS Format) as your Database. Make sure you select the appropriate Mac or Windows version. Browse for and select the file you just created from EndNote.
  • Click Import.

Importing ANTPAC records into RefWorks:

  • While viewing your search results in ANTPAC, select the records you want to download by clicking in the check box to the left of the item.
  • Click on the "Save Marked Records" button near the top of the ANTPAC screen.
  • Click on the "View Saved" button at the top of the ANTPAC sceen.
  • A new page will load. Then, click on the "Export Saved" button.
  • Choose to send your list to "Local Disk" by clicking in the radio button to the left of that option.
  • Click on the "Submit" button.
  • You will then be prompted to Open, Save or Cancel your request. Choose to save the file.
  • Now go to the RefWorks login page and log into your RefWorks account. If you don't have a RefWorks account, you should create one now.
  • Once logged in, select "Import" from the "References" menu on the RefWorks page.
  • The "Import Filter/Data Source" is "Innovative Interfaces INNOPAC" and the "Database" is "University of California - Irvine - ANTPAC"
  • If you want the citations to import into a particular folder, select that folder from the next drop-down menu.Choose to "Import Data from the following Text File" and click on the "Browse" button.
  • Select the ANTPAC file you saved previously and click on the "Import" button.
